Isaiah Thomas took to Instagram to share his thoughts surrounding the drama of his trade from the Celtics to the Cavaliers.
The blockbuster trade originally had Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Nets’ 2018 first-round pick going to Cleveland in for Kyrie Irving heading to Boston.
However, the uncertainty surrounding Thomas’ injured hip, widely reported as suffered in the 2017 Eastern Conference Finals, almost derailed the trade.
According to ESPN on Wednesday, the Celtics weren’t exactly sure when the injury happened, so they weren’t able to give that information to the Cavaliers. Even though the injury was revealed in May, Thomas collided with Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns in March, which could have also caused the labral tear, ESPN’s report said.
As additional compensation, the Celtics threw in a 2020 second-round pick, and the trade was completed.
Now that the deal is final, Thomas – who is rehabbing this week in Cleveland – shared an emotional glimpse of what he has gone through over the past couple of months.
“”They say every man is defined by his reaction to any given situation. Well who would you want to define you? Someone else or yourself? Whatever you do, give your heart to it and stay strong”… THE MARATHON CONTINUES!!! #BookOfIsaiah2ComingSoon #ThatSLOWgrind #KeepDoubting #KillaSeason 🎥: @TeeJayRegan”
The video post’s caption includes lyrics by a Nipsey Hussle, with Thomas writing, in part, “They say every man is defined by his reaction to any given situation. Well, who would you want to define you? Someone else or yourself? Whatever you do, give your heart to it, and stay strong.”
