With Hugh Freeze out in Oxford, Matt Luke is thrust into what he considers his “dream job.”
“I can truly tell y’all today that this is my dream job,” Luke said after being introduced as the Rebels interim head coach (via The Clarion-Ledger ). “It’s a job I’ve been preparing my whole life for. I feel more strongly now than ever that I’m the right man to run this program.”
Luke may also find joy in the pay bump attached to his new job as he’ll make $1.16 million this season. He was set to make $660,000 but received a $500,000 pay bump with the interim tag.
Ross Bjork, Ole Miss’ athletic director, didn’t say if Luke will keep the job with a certain level of success this year, but did call him a “great candidate for our job.”
This is Luke’s first head coaching opportunity after serving as the Rebels’ co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach since 2012. He played for Ole Miss in the mid-1990s.
